I always look forward to the time each year when the camelias in my yard bloom. They are always such perfect flowers and I MUST take pictures. If you imagine this flower as a face, it looks like it is shading its eyes from the bright sunlight, or may it is saluting!

Drawing has always come naturally to me, but it was never more than a fun pasttime. Then, at about age 40, I took a college art class. As the teacher watched us do an assignment in our sketchbooks, he asked me if I was an artist. Who me?!! No, I said, I just like to draw! But if a college professor, who was also a working artist, could see my work and think that I was an artist, then maybe I could be “an artist.” This was the start of a new journey… Over the next few years, I took some pastel classes and attended some workshops. I’d like to say that I entered art shows and won many awards, boosting my career, but that’s not what happened. Creativity always had to compete with real life, and too often, real life won!
